Germany Decides: Levina to Kyiv!

Last night, Unser Song 2017, the national final to select Germany’s Eurovision entry took place, where five acts performed songs which were specially commissioned from internationally successful producers.

The three hour show took place in Cologne, and featured a jury consisting of Tim Bendzko, Florian Silbereisen and Lena, who won Eurovision in 2010 with the song Satellite. Although there was a jury, they had no say in the decision of who would represent Germany, they simply gave their opinions of the performances. The decision was made by the public through televoting and the official Eurovision app.

The five acts competing were:

  • Axel Maximilian Feige

  • Felicia Lu Kürbiß

  • Helene Nissen

  • Isabella “Levina” Lueen

  • Yosefin Buohler

In the first round, the 5 acts performed a cover song of their choice:

  • Axel – You Know My Name (Chris Cornell)

  • Felicia – Dancing On My Own (Robyn)

  • Helene – Folsom Prison Blues (Johnny Cash)

  • Isabella – When We Were Young (Adele)

  • Yosefin – Love On Top (Beyoncé)

The three acts who advanced to the second round were:

  • Axel Maximilian Feige

  • Helene Nissen

  • Isabella ‘Levina’ Lueen

Then the acts performed their versions of Wildfire, one of the two songs commissioned for Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest. The winners of this round were:

  • Axel Maximilian Feige

  • Isabella ‘Levina’ Lueen

These two acts both performed the second commissioned entry which was called Perfect life. Axel and Levina both topped the international vote from Eurovision Vibes. The televoting lines were then opened, and Levina was chosen as the winner. Then she performed both songs and then the lines were opened again. Perfect Life was then chosen as the song that Levina would sing at Eurovision in Kyiv.
